winter holidays are
not an emergency
my Angleo kitty is as long as a yard of fabric, when he stretches out in the sun,
at the bottom of my bed.
the sun catches the inside of his left ear, where all the new winter fuzz stands up white and straight, keeping him warm. this morning, i saw him running outside my bedroom window,
in the back garden, near his frozen catnip patch. St. Anthony,
our black cat, was right behind him the green grass could still
be seen, under a light, last night snow. there they were,
cruising around the house, trying to see if anyone
could let them in.
i did. i opened the front door and gave a yell. there they were, snowy paws,
high tailing it up hallway stairs, to the small kitchen red food bowls.
now, we are all early morning relaxing, on the big bed
before getting to the desk to report for today’s’ work. . .
talking to people who think the winter holidays
are an emergency. . .
we will remind them, they can also relax, catch a few rays
and get longer in perspective. . .seeing that, one hundred years from now,
no one will even rememberer if they got
a lavender soap or book wrapped in golden paper
with a filigree ribbon.
