do birds have back doors? (reconsider)
“everyone wants to get, no one wants to give.” -anonymous

it’s another one of those days where everyone seems to be waiting to see
what they will get. tapping fingers, gazing out the window but not moving anything forward in the materialuniverse. awinter day. it’s snowing too, cold, alittle icy,
but birds move the air out front dashing and diving at the feeder for to get birdseed.
they go for what’s required, dive bombing the wooded seed holder seems second nature. i don’t see any of them stopping in mid-air to reconsider if it’s such a wise idea to dive bomb on the seed box. the bird men coming up behind them to get next for the bamping of the seed box. . .attest to the value of such decision.
the question, “do birds have back doors?”. i don’t think so. . .
years ago, twenty people fought and argued up here at a training to the tune ofa now famous question, “do birds have pocketbooks?”. unless you were present, it would be difficult to portray the earnestness with which some were convinced that they did.
not long ago, if you were called a bird brain, it was insulting.
today it might be a compliment. if you went straight ahead in-the-direction,
of your dream and dive-bombed the bird seed box knowing what was required would be present, wouldn’t your life be more simple? more fun? more purposeful?
i open the door out into the March morning. it’s been snowing, raining, and sleeting. Angelo, the cat, sees the birds. he sees the places its melted and
blessed ground grins through. his lookingness includes a sharp melted track
to the pine trees up-the-ledge. pine tree roots warm the ground around the trees.
no piled up snow is there. he can sit up there fairly protected and he knows it.
he looks. he sees. he doesn’t move yet. i hold open the door.
he withholds a while longer. once selected, the route out opens up.
he takes it, diving out the door up the walkway, leaving paw prints all the way. someone yells to him, “do you wanna come back?”, but he doesn’t even look back.
